Happy Halloween

I’m a little behind with posting fun things that we are doing in class. Here are some fun Halloween pictures. For the first time since I’ve been at our school we were allowed to dress up! It was Fall Fun Day! That means students could wear Halloween Costumes, fall colors, or other fun fall things. If we do this again next year, I am going to go all out. This year I didn’t get myself together enough to have a costume 🙂 We also attempted to do a Pumpkin Match Up. Only then did we discover that some of us have mirrored cameras and some don’t. We made it work! 😀

VA Map Project

These sweet kiddos continue to amaze me with their creativity. The assignment was to create a map that showed the different regions of VA, the major waterways, and the border states. The maps had a variety of looks including one made entirely of fondant, one made from pieces of fabric, and several made of candy and snack foods. I found myself really hungry after viewing these 🙂

Science Projects

Last week’s Science Experiment board was a hit. Students did such a great job choosing an experiment, forming a hypothesis, planning what to do, and drawing conclusions. Not everyone shared pictures, but here are a few.

Best Part of Me!

Another beginning of fifth grade tradition is The Best Part of Me writing. Inspired by the book, Best Part of Me, students read the poems in the book then choose their own favorite body part. They took pictures and wrote about them. These turned out cute 🙂

Class Rules Brainstorm

Today we tried out a new online tool called Padlet. We brainstormed our class rules by putting our ideas on the Padlet board. Tomorrow we will narrow these down to our top 3-5 rules. We generated some great ideas!

Great ideas for rules!!

Flags!

Normally we start every new fifth grade year with the kiddos making flags. We use the Jasper Johns flag painting as our inspiration for creating our own unique but similar flags. This year, we sent the pre-cut paper home with students, but asked them to use whatever they had available to create their flag. Some stuck to the traditional look and used paint and words from magazines, while others made theirs much more unique. Two students created their flags to represent the countries where their families are from. This flag project always teaches us so much about each student!
